Chinese-born artist Hong Zhu An is widely regarded as one of Singapore’s finest contemporary painters. Trained under renowned scholar Wang Zidou at the Shanghai Art and Craft Institute and later in Sichuan and Sydney, he is equally adept in Chinese and Western traditions. His works—acrylic and ink compositions layered with calligraphy, colour harmonies, and meditative abstraction—embody a serene yet dynamic energy that reflects his belief in art as a transfer of spirit. Since moving to Singapore in 1993, Hong has become a leading figure in the ink art scene, representing the nation internationally and exhibiting across Southeast Asia, the United States, and Australia. A recipient of numerous accolades including the prestigious UOB Painting of the Year Grand Award, his works are held in major institutions such as the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, Princeton University Museum, Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and National Gallery Singapore.
