Boo Sze Yang
Boo Sze Yang, born in 1965, works across diverse subjects ranging from everyday objects to crash scenes, abandoned cathedral interiors and empty commercial spaces. He treats these familiar or damaged environments as metaphors for the human condition, exploring fragility, impermanence and the shifting space between reality and imagination. His semi-abstract paintings create layered, multi-spatial worlds where memory breaks apart and reforms. In his recent figurative works, he reinterprets protest imagery with dark humour and theatrical exaggeration, using repeated figures, masks and hobby horses to reflect on power, resistance and the uncertainties of digital narratives. Boo received the Silver Award in the 2025 UOB Painting of the Year Competition and the Platinum Award in 2009. His works are in the collection of National Gallery Singapore.
